Kitchen remodel has been an adventure!
Hi all, thought I'd share our kitchen remodel. It's definitely been an adventure over the past two months but we can definitely see the finish line.
When we purchased the home, the wife and I knew we'd want to redo the kitchen and floors. Although usable, we felt the kitchen was very poorly laid. A large chunk of one corner was taken up by a double oven, the cabinets were old and required you to open a door and then slide out a drawer. The fridge was also a massive eye sore.
The floors were darker vinyl, though not certain we felt it was definitely on the cheaper side. The house was purchased and sold by a flipper prior to the previous owners. We knew we'd want to swap it out for something a little nicer.
We found a local construction & remodeling company, but we were responsible for coming up with the design & layout of the kitchen. Our first step was to come up with a mood board to figure out color scheme, materials, colors etc. This was definitely a fun part. A big change is having a peninsula rather than an island. Given the space and size of the room, we opted to have a peninsula.
The floors are engineered hardwood from Bergamo, with a cork underlayment. We were surprised how well it was installed and only took them 3 days (for the entire home!).
From the beginning we wanted to ensure that "everything has a home." So since we opted for custom cabinets, we worked closely with the cabinet guy and came up with some pretty great and functional features for the cabinets. Added a photo of one, which is a cooking utensil & baking sheet drawer. We also have two drawers for vegetables, and a lovely trash + paper towel drawer.
I attached some before, during and current photos. We still have a few more weeks to go but we can see the end of the tunnel.
The process so far has been fairly smooth, we had a few bumps which included the door being delayed and some items not being installed properly. I would love to hear, how much oversight do you have for some of the work being done on your home? I've been pretty involved in ensuring things are done to what we expect.

Really amazing work. Would love to see the final result.
I am also involved in the renovation process, pay a lot of attention to details, it is important to me that the final result is as close to my expectations as possible. Although it certainly takes a lot of time😀

Love this story! Thank you for sharing. Everything looks beautiful 😍
For the Dobby homeowners, we see that they are heavily involved in the design and budgeting phase. But then it's pretty hands off thanks to our project management aspects for the larger jobs. Our users don't like if our pros miss the project finish deadline by more than a couple of days. We manage that risk upfront. Usually it is a good idea to allow the service pros to source the materials including tiles and fixtures. That makes things more predictable and hands off.
Here is a feedback we got from one of our homeowners couple when we managed a few jobs for them over next 12 months: "Dobby is the project manager for our home. Planning Mode got our to-do list organized and fully mapped out for the next 12 months. We know it will get done!"
We saw a couple of categories for our new homebuyers: painting & drywall, flooring, kitchen or bathroom upgrades. So your flooring and kitchen upgrade work totally makes sense.
Congrats on becoming a homeowner!!
