How damaging is moss on a roof?
I have an ADU where the roof has been pretty overtaken by moss, is this critical to get rid of right away? Does this mean I need to replace my roof?

3. Blocked Gutters and Downspouts: Moss can grow into gutters and downspouts, blocking water flow and causing water to back up, potentially leading to roof, wall, or foundation damage.
4. Decreased Longevity: The presence of moss can shorten the lifespan of roofing materials by keeping them wet and more susceptible to weathering and decay.
5. Potential issues with Insurance coverage: Most insurance companies will require you to have the moss removed in order to provide insurance on your home.
To prevent moss damage, it's recommended to keep trees trimmed to allow more sunlight onto the roof, improve drainage, and reduce conditions favorable to moss growth. Additionally, removing any existing moss and applying moss-killing products can help protect the roof. Regular maintenance and inspections are crucial to identifying and addressing any moss-related issues early.

Hello, This is a great question.
Yes, moss can be damaging to roofs. Moss thrives in moist, shaded environments, and when it grows on roofs, it can cause several issues:
1. Moisture Retention: Moss retains moisture against the roof surface, which can lead to wood rot or deterioration of roofing materials.
2. Damage to Shingles: As moss thickens and grows, it can lift or curl shingles, compromising the roof’s ability to shed water and increasing the risk of leaks.
